SUKAMADE BEACH TOUR ( TURTLE’S BREEDING SPOT )

After Alas Purwo national park, we have Meru Betiri national park. It’s not much different from Alas purwo, Meru betiri is a natural and quiet beach. But here you can see directly turtle’s breeding spot also. For reach this place, we must spend about 6 hours. The distance is about 97 km to southwest of Banyuwangi. We would pick up you in your hotel or in FERRY at 07.00 am. For about 6 hours along the trip we could enjoy some beautiful panorama, such as : Rajegwesi beach, Goa Jepang ( Japanese cave ), Teluk hijau beach a fantastic green bay, plantation of rubber, coffee and cocoa, then we would stop to the traditional production of brown sugar. So though the traveling is so far and spend much time, you would not been bore.

At 02.00 pm we have arrived in the guest house, about 1 km from Sukamade beach. You could take a rest a little time before the next section. At 04.00 pm we would go to the sea turtle hatchery to see where a lot of tukik is saved. Tukik is turtle’s baby. Here you could see kind of turtle in Sukamade beach. They are: green turtle, olive ridley turtle, hawksbill turtle and leatherback turtle. After that, we could see directly the release of some tukik accompanied by the rangers. Because of tukik must live in free sea for their growth. In order to turtle would not been extinct in the future. Then we come back to the guest house to dinner with traditional menu of Banyuwangi.

A night adventure tour to Sukamade beach is an unforgettable moment. At 08.00 pm we go to the beach where we release the some tukik just now. We must wait it a few times. Always remember, obey ranger’s regulations! Please turn off your lamp or other lighting because turtle will be afraid and it couldn’t lay the egg. If you were luck, you could see a wonderful view, female turtle was laying more than one hundred eggs on the beach’s sand. Wait a moment, until turtle laying all of the eggs. After that, let it back into the sea. Then we could take and calculate one by one of the eggs carefully into the sack which brought by rangers. If all the eggs have collected, we could go back to guest house.

The next day, at 06.00 check out from the guest house. Before breakfast, we would go to the sea turtle hatchery again to plant some eggs which we get last night. For the depth of excavation must be same with before ( when female turtle plant it ), in order to all of eggs will hatch successfully. Don’t forget to give your name at the note and take a picture to complete your memories. After that, we take breakfast in small shop of Rajegwesi then we back to hotel or FERRY.
